Notes from  Prince and the Lily

 Edward Langtry visited Jersey on the Channell Islands,to marry another girl,before he knew anything of Emilie Charlotte LeBreton.

Edward was from Belfast Ireland,his grandfather George was a wealthy ship owner,and upon his death his son Richard took over the business. Richard Langtry had spoilt his son Edward who was brought up in a Quaker household in Belfast.

Edward married Jane Francis Price,but two years and seven months later he was a widower,Jane died of T.B and there were no children.

Edward and Lillie were married by the Dean of Jersey (Father of Lillie) on March 9th 1874,five years after he had married Jane his first wife.none of the Langtry family attended the wedding.

Edward was twenty six when he married Lillie.They lived in a house on Southampton Water,named "Cliff Lodge"which had seventeen rooms. He had friends in Southampton.

Edward died 15th October 1897 in the Cheshire County Asylum.

Lillie died February  1929 in Monaco.

 When I was but a young man my father would tell me what I imagined at the time to be stories that might have been in his imagination,but not so,Upon starting family research almost ten years ago,the first discovery I made was that my fathers Mother was Mary Langtry from Hambledon in Hampshire,and this set me off even more fervently seeking more information.

My Grand mother was a dressmaker,and lived in Portsmouth,where is is known that Lilly Langtry would visit from time to time,so not impossible that she may have visited Mary Langtry,but to this day I have never been able to confirm this possibility,nor has it been disproved.
