When and Where?

From my research I discovered the name "Boyland" in areas all over the United Kingdom and abroad.and the question that so often springs to mind is-When and where did it all begin?

There has been suggestions that the name in to be found mainly in Ireland, but the dates and variations in the spelling do not convince me that our connection is Irish. As far as I have been able to find, the name can be traced in Ireland back to about the 1700's,and likewise in other locations such as London or even Liverpool, where I believe the name may be found around the 1700's again, but the very earliest I have found is in Wiltshire,England the birthplace of Richard de Boyland in 1216.

There is a wealth of information to be found on the internet about this man and his family,he was actually born in Boyton,in Wiltshire about six or so miles fromWarminster,Dorset. He married a Matilda Gifford in 1241,not a lot is clear after this, except that the family can be found later in Norfolk England where Richard was the architect of "Boyland Hall" built in Morningthorpe Norfolk.

I do not wish to expand further on Richard de Boyland and his family because anyone who wishes to look further into this can do so by searching the internet, where is better explained and in more detail.

Further searching revealed details of a Hamlet/village not far from Exeter (see my maps) where there is to this day I believe,a "Boyland Farm",a "Boyland" road,a lower  "Boyland" and a Higher "Boyland,

Records show that the name could be in DUNSFORD, Nr. Exeter Devon as early as 1300,so all I can add here is, WHEN AND WHERE did it all begin?
